Chapter 3

Your Daily Workflow

3.1 Morning Routine

  • git pull (sync your repo with any updates pushed overnight)
  • Check the group chat — any announcements or materials shared?
  • Start Docker if it is not running: docker compose up -d
  • Open VS Code and your working directory
  • Review what you planned to do today

3.2 Daily Standup Format

Standups are brief — 60 seconds per person. Stick to the format.

QuestionExample
YesterdayFinished loading the CSV into PostgreSQL and wrote 3 SQL queries to validate the data.
TodayWill start the dbt staging models for the movies dataset.
Blockers"Airflow keeps failing with a scheduler error — I tried restarting the container but still failing. Need help."

Pro Tip

Raise blockers in the standup. Do not wait until you have been stuck all day.

If you do not have blockers, you can say "No blockers" — that is a perfectly valid answer.

3.3 Return-to-Office (RTO) Days

RTO DayTypical Activities
Check-in sessionProgress review with instructors, direction-setting for the week
Presentation dayDeliver your activity output — see Chapter 8 for presentation guide
Consultation sessionBring specific questions or stuck points prepared in advance
Collaborative workPair work, peer review, walkthrough sessions

Watch Out

RTO is not optional. If you cannot attend on your scheduled day, notify instructors AND HR as early as possible.

School exams, required events, or conflicts must be communicated in advance — not on the day.

3.4 Consultation Sessions

  • Come prepared with specific questions or a description of what is stuck.
  • Share your screen and your code — do not just describe the problem verbally.
  • Sessions are not a replacement for self-study. Try for at least 30 minutes before escalating.
  • After the session, document the solution in your own notes.

3.5 Communication and Timesheets

  • Use your Stratpoint email for all internship tools and communications.
  • Fill out your timesheet daily under the correct project or bootcamp category.
  • Use the agreed channel for questions, updates, and announcements — not personal messages to instructors.
